New York City Golf - A Meetup in the Bronx

Cat and I played some more New York City golf recently, and this time our destination was the Bronx.

Like so many other awesome things, golf lives in the Bronx. Actually, it thrives. There's the Bronx Golf Center, which is an awesome practice center, Then there's the historic 36 hole Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course... and speaking of historical Van Courtland Park Golf Course is the oldest public course in the US.

Our destination was Mosholu Golf Course, a challenging course named one of Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play. We were there with the New York Golf Meetup Group who were sponsoring a fundraiser for the awesome mentoring organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC.

Golf Meetup Groups are a great way to meet... and play... with golfers of all levels. Check their site, there might be one in your area.

  4. ONLY a New Yorker would answer the statement that they have people coming in from all over with "yes, we have people from Manhattan, Westchester, Queens..." :-)

Good stuff P. So now the question is which one of you two is the big sister ?

  6. Dutcher Golf Course in Pawling claims an opening year of 1890, so maybe it's the oldest.

I used to play a course in the Adirondacks called Loon Lake. It opened in 1895, but closed in 2001. I used to tell people "it's great, it's so uncrowded you can play 18 holes there on a Sunday in 3 hours." Now I realize that that's actually a bad thing if you hope to keep the course around a while.

  10. This made my weekend! I just signed up. I've been having so much trouble finding people to play with. I've played at Mosholu by myself in the past, enjoyed it but was put with a group that was much more advanced than I am. It will be great to have a group to play with.

So we'll be doing the range during the winter, then in the spring I'm out on the course with the New York Golf Meetup group!

  13. Hey Patricia, good stuff. I actually just started a meet up for golf in White Plains. We have some great free workshops coming up from fitness, swing instruction, injuries, etc. You guys should check it out and come down. Shorter ride than the city!

  14. I was born and raised in the Bronx and didn't even know there were golf courses there...perhaps because back then i would rather watch paint dry!

Now, I own the largest golf etail business dedicated to women golfers.

Stop by http://www.bogeysandbirdies.com and let me know if you are looking for anything special. I'll be heading to my biggest buying trip in January and I'd love some ideas of what women golfers are looking for.

If you find something you like on our website, use your special discount code (Golf Girl's Diary) and you'll receive 10% off your purchase.
