Glamour, Guts & Giving - Cristie Kerr in VIV Magazine

.

Cristie Kerr is known by many golf fans for her on-course intensity... the steely, single-minded determination she radiates when she's striding up a long fairway or studying a 20 foot putt.

Then there are those who don't follow golf at all, but who meet up with the LPGA Champion at cultural events and charity galas in Manhattan or Scottsdale... or one of the many places her myriad projects... and passions... take her. Those people see a decidedly more glamorous woman, a woman who is easy-going and articulate... who smiles a lot, and has a great sense of humor.

That these clearly contrasting styles belong to one person is impressive. That Cristie Kerr is so much more than the sum of these two parts... is where it really gets remarkable, and it's exactly why she was such an obvious choice for VIV magazine's November/December "Giving Back" Issue.

For those who don't know VIV, it's an interactive, all-digital bi-monthly lifestyle magazine that covers fashion, fitness, food, travel and other lifestyle topics. The target audience would be active, contemporary women in their 20's, 30's and 40's but the quality ...of the writing, photography, design, platform... is such that a far wider audience would enjoy it as well. The digital magazine concept has never looked or felt so good. And that's coming from someone who is not generally a fan of digital magazines...me.

In this special "giving back" issue Cristie naturally talks about her charity, Birdies for Breast Cancer, and her golf, but she also shares quite a few much more personal stories and observations. Things most people don't know about her...and some may find surprising.

Oh. And her fashion shoot is phenomenal. Really phenomenal. I'll be posting the "making of" video a bit later today. It's fun to watch and if you've only seen Ms. Kerr on the fairway and greens of championship courses, it's a great introduction to the other side of this fascinating, fund-raising golf champion.

  1. That's a very nice publication. Generally, I don't care for "digital magazines" either, but I think that's because they often are poorly designed with too many ads. This looks really nice and of course Cristie looks great. I'm trying not to be annoyed that someone can look like that AND plsy golf the way she does. Like: couldn't I just have one or the other? ;o)

  2. I definitely think Cristie Kerr should wear more black on the golf course.

Tight + low-cut would be good too.

  4. I've seen Cristie play on a number of occasions and she is in fact extremely intense on the golf course. Her golf is clearly her work. No bantering or lightness at all.

It is good to see this lighter side of her personality.

  5. I see Cristie at Danny's sometimes. Never dressed like that. Still looks really good.

  6. Cristie looks amazing! That's kind of stating the obvious in this situation, but she does.

I enjoyed reading about her charity work. I think the Cristie Kerr Women's Health Center is a wonderful endeavor. Greater access to digital mammography is vital in attacking this disease, IMHO.

It's fun to see Cristie all "glammed up." As one who normally lives in golf clothes (even in the winter) she makes me want to dust off my heels and hit a party or two.

In contrast, I really love Cristie's intensity on the course. I actually try to channel her when I'm competing. Unfortunately, I'm easily distracted and I have a lot of work to do on this front.

  7. Cristie Kerr is a superstar on and off the course and her commitment to raising awareness for Breast Cancer Research is second to none! (OK, and wouldn't she look great with an SSG Pink club...)

anyway, I really liked this article written by my friend Ann Wycoff, one of the best golf lifestyle writers in the business having been the west coast editor of Golf For Women. Great Magazine as well.

  8. No one on the LPGA tour has the elegance of Cristie Kerr and the fact that she's so intense and driven when she's playing makes it stand out even more.
