Golden Bear Birthday - Jack Nicklaus Stylin at 70

One can say a lot about mid-century American golf fashion, and most of it won't be nice.

The sixties and seventies in particular, are generally remembered for outrageous colors and questionable cuts that seem decidedly more Ringling Brothers than Brooks Brothers.

That Jack Nicklaus, managed to transcend the circus-inspired fray and wear the era's fashion with style is a testament to his seemingly innate sense of casual elegance.

In honor of his 70th birthday and his outstanding career, GolfWeek's Ashleigh Korzack's penned an engaging tribute to the Golden Bear earlier this week.

I'm guessing most golf fan share her sentiments. I know I do and I wish Mr. Nicklaus a happy... and stylish... 70th.

  1. You're right about the casual elegance. No one does it better than Jack.

  2. No doubt about it. It's reflected in his course design as well. I can't help but think that we won't ever see that kind of class and gentiliy again. An era has passes.

I believe the sweater he's wearing in that photo is one of the designs that's been brought back in his Heritage Collection.

  4. It's true Jack Nicklaus did manage to look great in an era of lots of aweful styles. Some of those 70's outfits really did look like clown clothes! :-p
