First of all, it's tiny; no bigger than an acorn really, and as you can see, it's made of metal.
It's a Victorian piece, probably from the late 1800's, and though it's meant to be worn, it's also utilitarian. It serves a purpose... in fact, a couple of purposes... that golfers and non-golfers alike might appreciate, but this was clearly created with a golfer in mind.
That's about all I can tell you about this particular item. Any idea what it is?
I'm thinking it's some kind of key type thing, maybe for some kind of old victorian golf club that was, maybe, adjustable? OK, I have no idea what it is.
ReplyDeleteI want to say it has something to do with making a sand tee, but the truth is I have no clue either
ReplyDeletesnuff box ? no, those were of ceramic as metal would taint the flavor of wet tobacco..........a whistle of some sort to warn other players of errant shots ?..........it seems to be convertable to a tri-pod like a mini-place holder maybe in measuring distance ?...........a practice devise that you could emulate a tee shot with as the ball would collapse down when struck rather than fly away ? ( i think i see some wear on the southern half of the acorn like ball ).................very odd indeed

I think it's got to be a stroke counter of some sort, right? I see the ball turning on the tri-pod and counting strokes somehow. But I don't know how :-\
