The Golf Girl Sex Survey. You're Cordially Invited to Participate!

OK, it's not really a Sex Survey per se, it's more like a Gender Survey. Same diff right? Sex Survey just sounds...well ...sexier.

In any case, if you've been reading the golf press lately you know that this is an ultra hot topic. Whether it's the LPGAs marketing strategy or the calendar controversies or anything about Natalie Gulbis. Guys + Girls + Golf = Lots of opinions and comments and buzz.

It's been almost a year since Golf Digest and Golf for Women magazine published the results of their Gender Survey, and personally I think it's a topic worth revisiting, for while that survey did provide a basic overview, I feel it fell short in a number of the more controversial areas. The ones we're talking about now. So, I'm going to incorporate those issues.. and more, and we'll see what we come up with. I hope to have the survey on line by by next week and I encourage you to participate. Between now and then if you have any ideas on gender/sex topics you'd like to see explored, let me know and I'll do my best to get them in.

  1. Patricia- looks like youre taking a stance with the LPGA. Last week we see a hot pic of you. Then you link a story this weekend to a photo blog that contains "art nudes" then this. Seems like you've made your stance well known- Sex Sells.

PS- I don't mind this! :) Just an observation.

  2. Well Kickn, You've got to admit, I'm always on topic with golf in this blog ...because golf is my passion, it's what I really love.

That said, I don't often write about the technical aspects of golf equipment, or player statistics and rankings and such, because there are so many bloggers out there who do that much better than I could.

I choose topics like golf fashion, player personalities, funny golf stories from around the world, trendy golf gadgets, and a plethora of other interesting, fun golf related subjects. You see, I'm trying to reach an audience that's broader than the just die hard golf fans (though happily, I do have quite a few of them among my readers). I'm also trying to reach beginners and occasional players and folks with maybe just a peripheral interest in the game. because I really believe that if I can communicate the fun and fascination that I've found in golf, others will be far more likely to want to pursue the sport. And that's good for golf.

As far as taking a stance that sex sells, well obviously it does, but the fact is, I write about it because I find it interesting and fun and entertaining. Golf is full of gender relations issues and I'm not alone in finding the topic fascinating. I truly believe that it's this rather than than the more racy subjects that my readers are interested in. Well, a bit of salaciousness isn't bad, as long as it's not out of context.

So, I hope you'll participate in the survey. It should be interesting , right?

  3. That was a very interesting survey last year...

My basic takeaway was that it was not very complimentary to the boys...

It'll be interesting to see YOUR results in comparison, given your (imagined) audience and how it skews...

    Let the games begin!

  4. Patricia, a sex, I mean gender, survey is indeed very timely. I'd like to see a question regarding the continued existence of men only clubs and lounges. Is it divisive and unfair or harmless? I've heard both opinionsfrom men and women so I'm really curious as to where the golf blog community weighs in.

  6. The idea that Patricia is just trying to sell sex doesn't hold water if one looks at her last six months of posting daily about golf. Granted she focuses on the "fluffy" side not the serious side, but there's a place for that, an important place because there really aren't many golf purists out there even among those who play well and take it seriously. We need the fun part too.

So Patricia, keep doing what your're doing. I'm looking forward to the survey...and the swimsuit blog.

  8. Bring on the survey....I support women’s golf as equal to men’s golf, both on the amateur level as well as the professional level. I am proud to say I have lost a round or two to women golfers...hey, there are some great women golfers out there... So bring on the survey and lets see how people feel or don’t feel about the game that is for everyone...
