As the Solheim Cup teams prepare to square off in Sugar Grove, one US team member is finding herself in the Number 1 spot in an increasing array of categories. I've written about Cristie Kerr's awesome ascent over the past several weeks, and it just keeps getting more impressive. Let's review her Roster of Ones.
* LPGA Official Money List
* Rolex Player of the Year
* Scoring/Vare Trophy
* Rounds under par
* Top-10 finishes
* Birdies
* Eagles
Now add to those the GolfWeek Sagarin Performance Index, which just put CK at #1, a smidge ahead of Lorena Ochoa and Paula Creamer. It was
The Constructivist, writing about Cristie's consistency in his excellent blog, Mostly Harmless who called the feat a quantum leap.
I've seen Cristie on the golf course and have always been impressed, A few days ago however, I got to observe her in another roll, that of hostess at the fifth annual Birdies for Breast Cancer Charity Golf Classic and Gala. The exciting event took place just this past Friday at stunning Liberty National Golf Course in Jersey City, NJ. The full day event featured a golf tournament with More than 20 LPGA players and a number of celebrities from the entertainment world. The on-course action was followed by a Todd English dinner, a silent auction, and a poker tournament.
And you know what? Cristie was every bit as dynamic in the hostess roll as she is when playing tournaments. Wearing a gorgeous strapless dress of fuchsia silk, she animated the evening with aplomb. It was several hours of glamorous, glittery, fun and Early estimates are that $350,000 was raised for Cristie's charity, Birdies for Breast Cancer. This year all proceeds will go towards the establishment of the Cristie Kerr Women’s Health Center at Liberty Health’s Jersey City Medical Center.
I've made a little collage with some the photos from that awesome evening and will post more, along with some video, over the next couple of weeks. I've got to admit I didn't do as much photography/videography I would've liked... Sorry, I was just too busy having fun.
Can't wait to watch the Solheim Cup action this weekend. Happy to hear Cristie's tournament was a success.
ReplyDeleteThe US team better not take it too easy. I have a feeling they're going to get a run for their money this year. I see the fire in Laura Davies' eyes.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun evening. I've heard Liberty National is beautiful. It'll be nice to see how it plays at the Barclays.
ReplyDeleteVery glamour... Love the golf bags!
ReplyDelete"I see the fire in Laura Davies' eyes."
ReplyDeleteShe'll need it. Judging by her game and her results lately, she will be a weak member of her team.
And yes, Liberty National is awesome. It was designed by the same pair that did my home course, Bob Cupp and Tom Kite, and it looked very, very familiar in a lot of aspects. That means to me that their members will never tire of playing it, because the better they play the more challenging the course gets.
I was thinking, when's the last time an American player had the kind of year Cristie Kerr is having this year?
ReplyDeleteAnnika dominated for such a long time, occasionally sharing the top spot with Karrie Webb. Then came Lorena and all the super-talented Korean players. So, what about Americans? Am I missing some/any... a few. Majors yes but
Don't get me wrong, I love the international aspect of the game but like Mexicans are inspired by Lorena Ochoa and Koreans are inspired by Jiyai Shin, In-Kyung Kim and others, It's about time an American actually entered into the fray.That's what Cristie's doing and I couldnt be more delighted,.
What I want to know is why are some people still hyping up Michelle Wie when Cristie Kerr is doing what she;s doing. WTF?
ReplyDeleteLove or hate Michelle Wie, she is a golf prodigy who is making her first appearance in a major international event. Despite having no victories, Wie has had a good year in her own right, and would be fourth in the Solheim Cup rankings if only this year -- her only year full-time on the LPGA Tour -- were considered.
ReplyDeleteThere is room enough to consider not only Wie, but also Kerr, not to mention Creamer, Pressel and the other members of the team. In fact, Creamer is essentially the leader of this squad and much rests on her shoulders this weekend.
"major international TEAM event" that is. Pardon the error.
ReplyDeleteCristie Kerr is a great role model. Her rise to the top of the rankings is great, but her commitment to the community and helping others is even better.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to hear that her tournament was a big success.

Cristie and the US team are off to a good start at Solheim and I'm looking forward to seeing the No# 1 American defend her Safeway classic title out here at Pumpkin Ridge.
ReplyDeleteCristie Kerr is the definition of perseverance and seeing her where she is now proves that perseverance when combined with talent and skill CAN pay off in the end. Congrats to Cristie!!
ReplyDeleteAnon: Get over the Wie hating thing. That's so last year. The kid has proven herself individually during her first LPGA season and now she's showing she can been a dedicated team player too.
ReplyDeleteGreat informative post thanks for sharing..... homeschooling | ged diploma
