Dubai is Hot - Literally, and as a Golf Destination

Dubai has been on my golf radar (golfdar) for quite a while now. In fact, I've posted about the land sometimes known as "the Arabian desert playground" a number of times.

I've gotten to know more about it lately through a couple of blogger friends, who live, work, blog and play golf there, and really enjoy the vibrant, cosmopolitan lifestyle.

Dubai is a 21st century boom town... the fastest growing city on earth... with a major commitment to golf, both recreational and professional. This has led to the development of awesome golf communities, amazing golf courses and very significant golf tournaments.

Today's announcement unveiling The European Tour's Race to Dubai and a new tournament, The Dubai World Championship, was reported everywhere, from golf and sports blogs to financial news networks to the international press at large. This is big international golf news because the The Dubai World Championship, with a $10,000,000 prize fund is currently the "world’s richest golf tournament", and The European Tour, with major support from Dubai-based Leisurecorp, is making a solid statement about its global golf ambitions.

There's already speculation about whether Tiger will be tempted by this glittery golf event, but most feel he's simply too busy to fit it into his schedule.

The Race to Dubai is still a couple of years away, however, it was announced today that one famous American golfer will be heading over to the Arabian sands in early December. That would be Natalie Gulbis. The awesome golf girl just posted a blog about her exciting ADT championship playing side by side with Lorena Ochoa this past weekend, and now she'll be joining Annika Sorenstam, Laura Davies and other top players at the Dubai Ladies Masters, December 13 - 16.

And I'm really hoping she blogs about it.

  1. Good news to here that Natalie is going to play in Dubai, I wonder if it will be televised. I was most impressed with her gutsy play coming down the closing holes at Trump National. Lorena pulled off the shot of the year from the rough to seal the win. Natalie showed a lot of class in her second place finish, The LPGA has a great future with sweethearts like Lorena and Natalie.

  2. Here we go praising Natalie again. this is America folks, if you come in second you're the first loser!

  3. Since it’s all about national pride just for the record, Natalie Gulbis just out-dueled a pretty impressive international field , 13 other USA players, 7 from South Korea, 2 from the UK, 3 from Sweden and one each from Norway, Japan and Australia not to mention 4 Hall of Famers. I’m not from the USA but I would certainly be extremely proud of that gorgeous California girl.

  4. Sadly, that attitude is all too common in America. If you don't win...if you don't win consitantly, like every time, you're a failure, or you just didn't try hard. The funny thing is this attitude usually comes from people who don't even play.

  5. Dubai is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with, not only in golf and luxury property development but also in finance. This as the United States previous dominant role as the world's leading economy appears to be coming to an end.

I think we as US citizens and our leaders should pay more attention to Dubai and not dismiss it as "a little tiny insignificant Arab country" like many here do.

  6. i'll bet phil wishes he had nice tits and ass so his 2nd place finishes would be celebrated the same way as natalie's.

this blog is full of the biggest bunch of spin doctors i have ever encountered.

i can understand it from patricia, it seems as though she is getting more attention from other bloggers and magazines, etc. so her increasing political correctness is somewhat understandable. the rest of you morons are just unbelievable - the famous apple "lemmings" commercial comes to mind when i read your ridiculous posts. put some fire in your bellies and stop being so eager to please golf girl - esp. when it comes to that little tart, natalie - she did well at adt but she is still NOT a champion - who remembers jack fleck or chick evans - they too won a few tournaments and came in second a lot. second place finishers are not remembered no matter how much marketing spin they put on their careers - even in this marketing driven, overhyped age we now live in.

sure natalie will have a fat bank account but who will remember her adt performance in a few years? what WILL be remembered is the fab. shot that lorena hit on 18 when a cool million was on the line - she is a champion, gulbis is not. spin all you wat but it is plain and simple.
