Much Maligned Monty a Ryder Cup Captain
Colin Montgomerie may not be universally popular, but most agree he the right guy for the Ryder Cup.
This is a short snippet from a video I made a little over a year ago, in the fall of 2007. I had been at the French Open that summer and crossed paths with an angry Monty there. Then there was the speeding ticket Mr. Montgomerie got on ... and tried to un-get. Well at least that was the gossip back then. And one of my favorite superhero golf boggers, The Green Blazer, reported it.
Right now however, it looks like Monty got some revenge.

One thing is certain: This is going to be FUN, FUN, FUN. I think I better book a ticket to Wales today.
ReplyDeleteI'd have gone with Olazabal personally. At least he's won a major. IMO
ReplyDeleteIt will be verrrry interesting to see the team dynamics from the Euro team this time around.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone say "Hal Sutton?"
The other side may well be after the next matches.
The hubster & I watch it every year & love it. Looks as if this year will be more than interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou got to go to the French Open?? I am a jealous wreck!
I have misgivings about this.
ReplyDeleteMonty has attributes to be a great captain but I think the pressure, that will gradually crank up over the next 20 months or so, will finally tell and his thin skin will get the better of him.
Definitely prefer Monty to Faldo. No question understands team golf as well as anyone does.
ReplyDeleteColin Montgomerie is the most unappealing of players. I don't look forward to having to see more of him as the Ryder Cup approaches. :(
ReplyDeleteTypical of Monty to try to get out of a speeding ticket! LOL. He strikes me as a arrogant, grouchy crumudgeon. Everyone says he'll be good because he's played so well in past Ryder Cups. I'm not sure that translates.

Thanks for reminding me, Chuck, I almost forget that debacle...
We need 6 players decided by some ranking system, 6 captain's picks - that's the ticket. Just because someone accumulated points by playing in 33 stroke play tournaments that year doesn't necessarily tranlate to international match play competition with a partner, especially in foursomes. It's embarrassing to have some of these guys on our team, just so they can put it on their resume. If you want to win most years, change the system. If you want to TALK about winning, leave it as it is...
yo snooty bitch
ReplyDeleteryder cup is every other year, not every year ya dumb rinkled-crinkled-even-scarier-when-your-naked-ho-bag
