LPGA Championship - Cristie Kerr's Pivotal Round

.
Preparing to tee off momentarily in the final round of the LPGA Tour Championship, Cristie Kerr has more at stake than anyone in Orlando today.

Trailing leader Amy Yang by three strokes she's within striking distance of becoming the first American in 16 years to win the Rolex Player of the Year,  a lifelong dream she's worked unrelentingly to achieve.  In order to unseat points leader Yani Tseng, she needs to win.

The Vare Trophy, for the season's best scoring average, is also within reach.  If Kerr posts a score three shots better than 2010 money list winner Na Yeon Choi's today she'll win the Trophy by seven thousandths of a point.

Then there's the Rolex No. 1 world ranking,  a title Cristie's held several times this season. A win today could allow her to finish the year with it.

That's a lot riding on today's 18 holes, but there's no doubt Cristie Kerr has the talent, ability and determination to win.

  1. It's got to be sooo stressful. I've often wondered how players deal with that.

  3. I was really hoping Cristie would win, but I have no doubt she'll right be back to No. 1 in 2011.

  4. When it comes to LPGA Americans just don't win too much anymore. Kerr might be the best of the US players but she comes up short next to the Asian.

  5. It was an amazing season for Cristie by any standards. Two victories including a major, 11 finishes top five or better. Doesn't get much better, but I'm pretty sure she'll be aiming for better in 2011.

  6. while Cristie Kerr may be aiming for the No. 1 finish next year, she continues to play with amazing consistency, always competitive and that player determination shown by few others. I applaud her work, American or not!

  7. I'm sure Cristie was hoping for a different result yesterday, but by any standard, she had a terrific year. She is in her prime now and she will be even more determined next year!! As I mentioned to you the other day, if Cristie could not win POY, seeing Yani win was fine by me. Yani is a great kid and some kind of player.
