For the LPGA, it's on to the UK

Amazingly, the 15th Evian Masters was won today by the same player who won the first ever Evian Masters, way back in 1994.

In an exciting three-way, sudden-death play-off earlier today, Sweden's Helen Alfredsson won the tournament for the 3rd time... at age 43!

21 year old Na Yeon Choi and 19 year old Angela Park were the other two contenders in the thrilling three-way, so this victory once again highlights the fact that, as Ms. Alfredsson herself put it: In golf, "Age doesn't seem to be that big a deal".

Now, after a week in the enchanting, sun dappled French Alps. The ladies of the LPGA are off to the somewhat more uncertain climate of the UK, and Sunningdale Golf Club, where the The British Women's Open will soon be underway.

In this video, taken in early July, the awesome Cristie Kerr talks about how she prepares for the British Women's Open.

Cristie is gorgeous ...and has that rare combination of humor, elegance and a true sense of empathy, that make her a fan favorite. ...And now, after her impressive T6 finish in Evian, lots of golf fans have her on their short list to win at Sunningdale.

  1. I would love to have seen more coverage of the Evian Masters and I'm hoping it's better for the British.

  2. Christie's story is an amazing one, too. How she battled her weight and a brat reputation to become a premier player.

  3. Yes, Cristie is amazing. I think she's probably one of the most media-genic of all the LPGA stars. And what I love is that she doesn't seem like she's exploiting herself (as some others do) She just plays great golf talks about the things she's passionate about like her charity, and ...her wine collection.

  4. Oooops - she's played Sunningdale before ? This is not a links course. Sunningdale is a parkland course very similar to most American courses. It's not a windblown layout like Birkdale two weeks ago where the men played - rain can be an issue, but this isn't what most people think about when they think of golf in the UK.

Having said that - WOW ! Does Cristie Kerr look good with her hair down. 8-D

  5. courtgolf - I'm pretty sure Cristie's talking about the unpredictable generally rainy, dank weather and the whole "vibe" of golf in the UK. It's so culturally different from our "vibe", and from the looks of the extended forcast it doesn't seem like there will be much sun in Sunningdale this week either. :)

  6. Cristie Kerr is a babe but Paula's my pick.

  7. Heather - watch the video again - she describes crazy bounces and playing the ball along the ground. That is links golf - not parkland golf.

  8. The Avian was awesome, you couldn’t have staged it any better coming down the stretch. How deserving was Helen’s win after being honored with the Ambassadors award at the Saturday night reception. Come to think of it, Natalie won the same ambassadors award, then won the following year. And I agree, Christie Kerr is due for another big win.

  9. i personaly found Helen Alfredsson seamed very rude to her fellow play off compeditors. it seam rather than shake there hands or give them a hug. she was avoiding them. she just walked away after park won. great example to set for the young girls. great match. wrong winner

  10. I didn't witness the incident you described, but Swedes tend not to be very demonstrative. Maybe that accounts for some of it.
