Golf Memorabilia: Rare & Wonderful, but What is It?
According to the experts this little item is probably from the twenties.
It's made out of green jadeite, in an art deco style and yes that's a golfer on the top, made of base metal with remnants of silverplate. It is electric, and in full working condition.
But what does it do?

Could it be a lamp for children's room, that illuminate just a little so they can sleep (not in the dark). In french, "une veilleuse" ?
ReplyDeleteA pilot according to the dictionary but I'm quite sure it's a strange traduction...
Laurence.
it is very beautiful golf with beauty.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking it is a light/lamp. Like the kind with the nymph on the ball that glows.
ReplyDeleteI think Laurence means a "nite lite" and that might be my guess too. Or maybe a clock, though I don't exactly know where the clock face would be.

ReplyDeletepatricia,
sounds like a question for your friend, in ridgefield CT who runs a golf memoribilia and collectables place on route 9, whom you made a video with displaying his store
damn if i can't find his name, and i even contacted him by telephone, shortly after seeing the video, but i just can't place that information now
maybe you can refresh my memory and give him another shout-out here

I think it's a music box, and the golfers spins around? maybe?
ReplyDeleteSimple. It tricks people into buying it.
ReplyDeleteFrank, That would be Skip Rooney of
ReplyDeleteGolf Art ... and he would probably get it right. No correct answers so far. Hint: It has a definite usage, but it's not something we use much these days. Will post another view of it later in the day. ;o)
Here's the
Golf Art video for those who haven't seen it.
Is that an egg warmer for soft boiled eggs? The kind that Vardon liked to eat?
ReplyDeleteA thimble?
ReplyDeletean electric jello mold ?
ReplyDeletesnuff box?

ReplyDeletei regularly attend auctions with the purpose of finding stuff like this
my most recent acquisition is a framed lay-out of hudson national with an inscription by tom fazio to tom marzolf in 1996 (i have a call in to mr marzolf to make sure the item was not stolen from him)
while i have no idea what this piece is, or why it needs electricity, no sport has more memorabilia than golf
my "holy grail" find would be the missing PGA trophy - the one that replaced the original temporarily until the origianl was found some seven years later - since then the replacement, used for those seven years, has gone missing
anyway happy hunting

It is a golf ball warmer..
ReplyDeleteIt's The Sharper Image's very first product. An overpriced, electric, for some reason, paperweight.
