{UPDATE BELOW} The warmth of the Iberian sun, the heady scent of hibiscus and the gracious conviviality of Canarian hosts, those are are some of the things that make the Tenerife Open de España one of the most anticipated events on the LET schedule.
The LET ladies clearly look forward to playing in Tenerife, and this year the island's warmth was particularly welcome, as this Canary Island stop comes on the heels of a cold and blustery British Open. The climatic contrast was noted in myriad tweets, as players arrived at Golf Las Americas a couple of days ago:
This is a little different than yesterday! Always great to be in tenerife! @openfemenino

... and speaking of Nikki Garrett, the accomplished Aussie...who won 2007 Tenerife Ladies Open at Golf Del Sur... set an sizzling pace today, with a career low round of eight under par 64.
The Ladies European Tour website has all the details... plus numerous photos that'll undoubtedly make you wish you were there.
The sun soaked images sure have me feeling wistful, as I was invited to attend the awesome event... and play in the ProAm. Sadly, state-side obligations have me stuck in the NYC area this week, so I'm following from afar... and resolved to make it to Tenerife for the next Open de España Femenino.
Thanks to social media, fresh updates and behind-the-scenes photos are being posted regularly on Facebook, Twitter and elsewhere, giving fans an inside look at this exciting event and its awesome venue. For those of us on the other side of the proverbial pond, it's also a chance to see some ultra-talented players we don't see enough of. For a start check out the links below:

This looks like a wonderful event in a country that lends itself so well to the game. Once the European economy gets going back in the right direction, hopefully the men's events in Spain that were cancelled will be back on the European Tour schedule.
ReplyDeleteSpain has some of the best golf in Europe AND some of the prettiest golfers! ;)
ReplyDeleteI was happy to see Nikki hold on to her lead (Aussie Pride) but she's got quite a pack just behind her. I hope she can hold on!!!!
ReplyDeleteA dream destination for sure.
