PGA Ladies Day Knee Socks May Set a Spring Trend

The ladies were in short white skirts and argyle knee-highs, while the guys sported pink trimmed caddy bibs. One of these looks may become a trend this spring the other almost surely won't.

The outfits were worn today at the PGA Tour Wives Classic, an annual nine-hole scramble played by the wives and girl friends of tour pros. The ladies looked great and the guys... well, they helped out as caddies, though it seems couple of them were nearly fired when shots went astray. Golf can be lots of fun when it's not taken too seriously and it sounds like lightness was the order of the day at PGA National today.

The event which was planned and organized by the "GWAGs", netted nearly $100,000 for charity. And the girls looked so good it may just inspire a new trend in Fairway fashion.

  1. I am so going to try some! Wait. Do you think I'm too old? Maybe so, but it certainly would cover up my old lady legs, lol. I really would take to the knee socks if I were younger! But, I think I'll stick to capris...

  2. They look great. I have been a knee high advocate for some time now. Love them!

  3. I love it! I always thought that was a great idea for the in-between weather we have here in Atl. Now that the LPGA gals did it, I can follow their stylish lead. After golf today, I'm off sock shopping!

  4. come on - be serious - that's AWFUL looking. and how many women are going to go to the golf course and come off with tan lines above their knees ??

it may be cute and "naughty" for the night time school girl look - but out in the sun ?

Oh, come on, Snooty! Let's stop worrying that we don't look 28 anymore. Age lines and blemishes anywhere on our bodies ought to be indications of our superior wisdom. From what I've read of your past comments, you possess such wisdom. Wisdom doesn't come without a price, and that price is aging bodies. Consider advertising your wisdom and experience rather than hiding it.

  6. I bet that this trend - if it breaks out - takes quite a while to show up at a typical club. Golf is just conservative that way.

  7. Knee socks are so cute and as SJN said they really work well in cooler climates through the spring even into early summer. Paula Creamer wear knee socks sometimes and they look great on her, but what doesn't, right?

  8. @courtgolf

You are missing the point. The socks are designed to be worn in the chilly morning hours and then shed when the sun warms up. Thus, no tan lines.

  9. Yeah Court, and let me tell you something, "cute and naughty" works as well on the golf course as it does in the clubs. Maybe better.

  10. Ok Heather - that makes sense....EXCEPT that the girls in the pictures are wearing short skirts ! If you're concerned about a morning chill, why wear a short skirt ? (AHA !! Male logic wins again !!) :-D

I admit - women and fashion are from a lot further away than Venus to me. I see women wearing open toed sandals and short skirts when the temperature is in the 30's. How crazy is that ?

LOL Anon - so if they were wearing button down shirts with the tails kotted around their stomachs....hmm...you have a point !! :-)

  11. The event was organized by GWAGs, as opposed to GAGS (golfers against goose sh*t), another important organization in the world of golf.

Keep rockin the knee highs golfer girls ...

  12. I wear knee sock with short golf skirts often. On cool days they provide just enough warmth so I CAN wear my skirts, which I love...if I didn't wear my knee socks I'd probably just wear pants.

Also I don't worry about tan lines because I slather on the sun screen religiously. My tan is spray-on. :-)

  13. That look rocks - wow ! I saw Paula C in some several years back, and she looked, um.... NICE. Rock the Argyles, I say....

  14. lol - Lisa - have at it - I don't tell women they SHOULDN'T wear whatever they want to wear (well - maybe Serena Williams and her street walker outfits from the US and French Opens a few years ago) - I just wonder if there is a point where function outweighs form. With all the options out there in the stores, why is it necessary to wear short skirts and open toed shoes when it's friggin' cold outside ?

  15. boy does this look like fun. Being the crafty, innovative fashionable one that I am, I'm thinking about introducing these knee-highs in a fishnet version... what do you think????

Great to see the ladies raising money for a great cause!

  16. I like the look, but you cannot wear field-hockey skirts with it. Visit http://realwomengolf.blogspot.com/2009/02/greg-norman-sleek-styles-from-shark.html and see what a lady should look like in a skirt...

  18. Where can I find these outfits? Especially the second from the left. Anyone know? I'm having a "country club" themed birthday party on Saturday and REALLY want this look!
    Thanks in advance,
