Just about everyone who knows Cristie Kerr, knows of her dedication to the fight against breast cancer.
Tirelessly raising funds... and awareness... she's contributed as much as any athlete anywhere, to the fight against this disease. Whether she's battling with her irons on the fairways of a championship course, or hosting events - large and small - across the country, her mission is never far from her mind.
Cristie has often spoken of her Mom's battle with Breast Cancer... the battle that led to her own awareness of the illness... and her determination to do everything in her power to fight it. Her Mom's recovery was like a second chance, and further cemented Cristie's resolve.
Recently, Cristie wrote about her own multi-dimensional crusade in a blog post for Huffington Post's new Impact section. She writes in a highly personal style about her Mom, and about Birdies for Breast Cancer, her own non-profit organization.
Impact in partnership with Causecast is focused on public service, volunteerism and giving back, and on major issues affecting Americans today. It's a platform where media, entertainment, philanthropy, and education converge, and a perfect place for Cristie to reach a new audience with her very universal message.
The LPGA Champion is getting ready to hit the fairways again, this time half way around the world in NorthEast Asia at Korea's HanaBank*KOLON Championship which begins on Thursday. However, despite the distance...and the demands of golf at it's highest level... you can be sure Cristie's cause is never going to be too far from her thoughts.
Cristie Kerr blogging at HuffPo. Some of the more ambitious golf bloggers around here will most likely be jealous. ;)
ReplyDeleteHer entire career SHOULD be an example to golfers, athletes, and the the LPGA Tour.
ReplyDeleteAs a young pro she commited herself to creating a succesful career. Health and fitness provide a foundation for consistent performance, and creating a brand and image that provides value to her sponsors.
Now we see the success and drive being used for change. Being an athlete, winner, and eventually a hall of fame plaque is great...but the greatest legacy is how that success and fame is used to make the world a better place....and doing it with class!
Leading by example - Cristie is an inspiration to us all! Thanks for posting this.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed by Cristie Kerr because playing at her level so consistently obviously requires so much work and dedication, but yet she's making a very significant contribution, in a very hands-on way, to a cause that affects so many people, Bravo Cristie.
ReplyDeleteIs there a place I can get a list of the LPGA and PGA player charities, foundations and non profit organizations?
ReplyDeleteChristie Kerr is an exemplary golfer with all that she embraces in her *off time*. She is such a joy to watch on and off the golf course.
ReplyDeleteCristie has been and always will be an inspiration on 'so many levels.' She approachable, down to earth and a joy to watch!! Beautifully written article, Patricia. ~ Nikki on the 17fairway
ReplyDeleteI love Cristie Kerr as a great role model and fashion model on the LPGA.
