The Ladies European Tour unveiled their 2010 Schedule yesterday, revealing a calender that can best be described as "Around the World in 27 tournaments."
I say that because the 27 events on the LET's 2010 list encompass an amazing 20 different countries. And these are countries as culturally distinct as they are distant from each other.
The Tour's Executive Director, Alexandra Armas, announced the 2010 schedule yesterday, pointing to four new stops - New Zealand, Morocco, Slovakia and China - as well as the return events in Turkey and Scotland. These stops were on a hiatus for the 2009 season, which saw 23 tournaments in 18 countries.
Ms. Armas spoke of a massive interest in hosting a Ladies European Tour event, despite the challenges of today's financial climate, and thanked partners and sponsors for their continued commitment to the LET, and to women's golf. She also acknowledged the players for their efforts in making each tournament memorable, exciting and unique.
I'll be working on two projects in Europe in 2010 and look forward to writing about these tournaments, their unique venues and the people who make them happen.
Ladies European Tour 2010 schedule
That's amazing. I don't know how the players handle the jet lag. Last week I read that a couple of the ladies flew from FL where they were at Q School to Dubai and arrived just a couple of hours before the tournament began!!!
ReplyDeleteIt would be great to get some TV coverage of some of those tournaments. To much to hope for? >:(
ReplyDeleteThere are 48 countries in Europe (49 if you include Vatican City...but Vatican City doesn't have a golf course, so we won't count it). Turkey is in Europe...so is Slovakia. Morocco is a ferry ride across the Straight of Gibraltar from Spain.
ReplyDeleteThey do plan their schedule well for easy travel, playing in one area, then taking some time off before starting another set of tournaments.
The LPGA plans most of it's schedule in North America - 48 continental states, Canada, and Mexico - THEN goes to Asia, nortern Africa, Europe, and Australia...but the LET is "intrepid".
Ash - you might check the Sky Sports web sight - they might have some online or satellite outlets available in the US for highlights, but remember, most of these tournaments will be taking place in the middle of the night here in the US.
Even if LET fails, it gets another serve, right, Court?
ReplyDeleteThese girls have some amazing energy LPGA, LET and the other tours. It's a much more difficult life than most people imagine. We should be thankful for their dedication!
